Education

If a country wants to see improvement and development, everything must be done to encourage education for all. ASAS contributes in its own way to the education of people in Laos.

A new arrival at the ASAS house.

Laos remains a country where a large proportion of the population works in agriculture (primarily rice cultivation). For many rural villages, this is their only source of income. The inhabitants of these villages, most of which are very far from cities, often live in precarious conditions. They very frequently have a school (often a very basic structure made of bamboo or rice straw), and it is not uncommon for these schools to be completely lacking in books or other school supplies.

To enable children from remote villages to continue their schooling, ASAS rents a house to accommodate children so they can continue their schooling in the city.

In general, children in villages stop their schooling quite early, from the age of 12, because there is no infrastructure adapted to their level.

The house is not just a place for children, it also provides a link between them and their village.

When families want to visit their children, the ASAS house can accommodate them as a room is reserved for them.

ASAS's aim is to maintain this link with their family despite the distance from their loved one.

In this house, the children are not left to their own devices; the goal is to recreate the community they had to leave in order to continue their schooling. Within the house, we find the elders who structure this small community, ensuring that the children are not uprooted and lost in the vastness of the city.

Other actions undertaken by the association included paying the school fees for children living in the ASAS home and funding the opening of a computer lab. The plan involved purchasing and installing equipment, creating flyers, and recruiting a teacher.

Feel free to contribute to our work by making a donation to the association.

All of this is thanks to you!
